Collections: "Flower Symphony"

This series showcases Vunderink's deep connection to nature and his fascination with the beauty and vitality of flowers. In this body of work, flowers became a central motif, often paired with elegant Art Deco vases. Ido painted these blooms at various stages of spring and summer, using the subject as a way to push his artistic boundaries. Through his immersion in the world of plants, he moved beyond realistic depictions of nature to develop a bold, innovative approach to painting. By breaking with traditional conventions, he emphasised the flat, two-dimensional surface of the canvas while exploring the emotional resonance of art-making. This series celebrates the very act of painting—a theme to which Ido would return repeatedly throughout his career, experimenting with techniques and forms. Here, flowers and plants are frequently rendered in an abstract style, with Ido’s dynamic brushwork imbuing the familiar subjects with fresh energy. The works are characterised by striking colour combinations and an exuberance that seems to radiate from the canvas. The flowers appear to be in perpetual bloom, evoking a sense of life, vitality, and renewal. Inspired by the Dutch masters as well as the fleeting beauty captured by the Impressionists, Ido draws on these influences while forging a distinctive, contemporary voice. The series bursts with energy and colour, transforming the ephemeral nature of flowers into a timeless celebration of creativity and beauty.
